Not allowing released felons to come back and live in the homes of their loved ones if those loved ones receive housing vouchers has little/nothing to do with protecting neighborhoods and more to do with the very brazen nature of recidivism demands, the cycle of poverty and incarceration, and viewing prisoners as labor. This is the modern day version of dividing black families by removing the patriarch. This is but one element that is strategically embedded in the system called capitalism.

Show them their purpose and their pants will probably go up on their own. Focus on their pants, and they’ll pull them up for a moment, but their minds will be unchanged.

You ever notice how the shape of a tree from far away resembles a lung and one of the purposes of a tree is to oxygenate and cleanse air? Ever noticed how tomatoes, when sliced, resemble a brain pattern and when consumed they enhance memory and brain function? Ever noticed how cells, when magnified, resemble a galaxy, and cells are life? Yeah. Ever noticed how God is real? Yeah. Me too.

We do not live in a world of vacuums. Its not oppressors over here and the oppressed over there. Its not perpetrators over here and victims over there. Oppressed people, oppress people. Usually the oppressor and the oppressed are the same damn person!

Dear Pharell Williams & Candy Crush Designers,
I would like to personally thank you for aiding in the murder of phuked up gender norms and warped notions of masculinity. Grown men everywhere uncontrollably drop everything to dance to “Happy” and can be found on every train, bus, and plane begging for Candy Crush lives. With you, all is better in the world.
Sincerely,

Dear Well-Intentioned People,
Praying. Hoping. Knowing better days are yet to come. Suggestions of how to feel better. How to get through. How to forgive and move on. Are not always the best response to pain. Often allowing one to sit in the middle of the fire. Directly in the center of the hurt and anger and even joining them there in the middle is far better than well-intended ideas of how to “feel better”. Love sometimes means sitting in some shyt. Silently. Loudly. Deliberately. In the ugly. Sometimes the only way out is thru.
Sincerely,
Sit With

There are these moments. These really oddly beautiful moments. On public transportation. Trains. Buses. Mega Bus. Amtrak. Planes. And you see these moments unfold all around you. Inside of you. People sit next to each other. Strangers. Initially trying to maintain physical space boundaries. Invading the other’s space as little as possible. Some huff when touched. Some seem unphased. Then magic happens. Then the human need for platonic intimacy happens. If they sit long enough. They relax. They cave. Intimacy forms. They lean into each other. Becoming the one that we all are. It becomes less tense. Even the ones who initially grunted. Their spirits become assuaged. Some even fall asleep. Because the reality is that those moments are essential. They let us know about our intrinsic need for non-threatening touch. That we are here to absorb and release intimacy. And all is a little better in that moment.
